About the studio
Cane, kept simple.
New Mahalaxmi Cane Craft is a furniture studio in Shahupuri, Kolhapur. We weave natural cane into pieces for the way homes are lived in now.
The work
A familiar material, a cleaner line.
Cane already belongs in Indian rooms. It is cool, it is light, and the weave does the decorating. What we change is the shape: fewer curls, quieter colours, and sizes that fit apartments as well as larger houses.
A piece starts with the room. You tell us the wall, the number of people at the table, or how deep the balcony is. Then the frame is shaped and the cane is set by hand.
Cloth is only where you sit or sleep. The rest stays cane and wood.

An open frame
We keep the silhouette light so a sofa or a cabinet does not close a room in.
Your measurements
Standard sizes are a start. The final piece follows the space you actually have.
